SASSA SRD Guides

How to Change Your SRD Phone Number (With or Without Application ID)

If you lost your cellphone number or no longer have access to it, you can still update your contact details for the SASSA SRD R370 grant. This guide shows you the official steps to change your phone number — even if you don’t remember your Application ID.

We are not SASSA. We provide verified information only and will never ask for your ID number or banking details.

✅ Why You Must Update Your SRD Phone Number

  • To receive your one-time PIN (OTP) for status checks
  • To get payment notifications
  • To fix “bank details pending” errors
  • To submit an appeal

If SASSA cannot reach you, your payments may stop — so update your number as soon as possible.

📌 Option 1: Change SRD Phone Number Online

You can update your number on the official SASSA SRD portal:

🔗 Update Your Contact Details (Official .gov.za)

  1. Enter your South African ID number
  2. Enter the previous cellphone number (if accessible)
  3. Enter your new cellphone number
  4. Confirm using the OTP sent to your new number

Tip: Make sure your new SIM card is registered in your name (RICA required).

📌 Option 2: Change SRD Phone Number Without Application ID

If you forgot or lost your Application ID, you can retrieve it:

🔗 Recover SRD Application ID

  1. Enter your ID number
  2. Submit a request to receive your Application ID by SMS
  3. Use that ID to update your number successfully

☎️ Still Having Trouble? Contact SASSA

If the OTP does not arrive or the old number is lost, contact SASSA directly:

  • Call: 0800 60 10 11 (Weekdays)
  • Email: grantenquiries@sassa.gov.za
  • WhatsApp: 082 046 8553

Important: SASSA may request proof of identity before making the change.

⚠️ Beware of Scams

Never share your ID number, bank details, PINs or OTPs with anyone except on .gov.za websites. Facebook or WhatsApp agents offering “fast assistance” are often scammers.

📝 Before You Request a Phone Number Change

  • Ensure you previously applied for the SRD grant
  • The new contact number must be active and registered (RICA)
  • Details must match your ID on Home Affairs records

If something doesn’t match, your change request may fail.
