β Who Qualifies?
You may qualify if you meet all of the following:
- 18β59 years old
- South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee
- Medically certified as disabled (temporary or permanent)
- Not able to work and support yourself
- Pass the SASSA Means Test
π Grant Types
- Temporary Disability Grant: Valid for 6β12 months
- Permanent Disability Grant: Reviewed every 1β3 years
SASSA decides the grant type based on medical results.
π° Grant Amount (2025)
Approx. R2,180 per month (updated twice yearly in April & October).
π Required Documents
- Green ID Book / Smart ID card
- Recent medical report from a state doctor
- Proof of address
- Bank confirmation letter (if paid into bank account)
- Proof of income and assets (if married, include spouse documents)
π How to Apply
- Visit your nearest SASSA office
- Submit documents and complete Disability Grant Application Form
- Undergo a medical assessment at a government hospital if required
- Receive a receipt as proof of application
Processing can take up to 3 months. If approved, payments backdated to application date.
